Trust an Experienced Periodontist for Your Dental Implant Procedure
Dental implants are small metal posts that are surgically placed in the jaw to provide up to a lifetime of support for dental crowns, bridges, and dentures. No matter if you are missing a single tooth or an entire row, a dental implant treatment is widely considered to be the best restorative solution.
When you turn to Dr. Andrew R. Samuel to perform your dental implant procedure at our Ocean, NJ, practice, we will go the extra mile to ensure your comfort and safety. At Advanced Periodontics and Dental Implants, we plan and perform dental implant surgery with cutting-edge computer-guided technology, including 3D image navigation (X-NAV System), which allows us to consistently achieve optimal results. Creating a Personalized Treatment Plan
Dr. Samuel will begin planning your dental implant procedure by taking x-rays and cone beam scans of your jaw. To help make the planning process as easy and convenient as possible, we can even bring our mobile scanner to your home. These images will be uploaded to a computer, where advanced SIMPLANT® software system will design a unique surgical template. With this guide, Dr. Samuel can identify ideal placement locations for each of your implants. Additionally, he can also identify areas of bone recession and determine if you first require a preparatory bone grafting procedure. We offer several different types of dental implants, and Dr. Samuel will discuss the advantages of each to determine the type that is right for you.
The Dental Implant Procedure
From start to finish, a dental implant procedure has three phases and involves collaboration between Dr. Samuel and your restorative dentist.
Phase 1: Implant Placement Surgery
To begin surgery, we will numb your gums with local anesthesia. Thanks to Dr. Samuel's experience and gentle touch, roughly 90 percent of our patients do not require additional sedation. However, if you are anxious about the procedure, we can also provide oral conscious or intravenous (IV) sedation, which will be administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist to ensure your safety.
Your implant surgery will take place in our impeccably maintained and sterilized treatment room. During surgery, Dr. Samuel will create small incisions in your gums and then insert implant posts directly into the jaw. The number of implants being placed will depend on the restoration you will be supporting. If you will be receiving a full-arch denture, Dr. Samuel can often secure this prosthesis with only four implants by using the innovative All-on-4® technique.
Phase 2: Abutment Placement
After being placed, traditional dental implants will be left to heal for four to six months. This will allow them to completely fuse with the surrounding bone through a process known as osseointegration. However, we also offer same-day implants that can support a restoration on the day of surgery. Once osseointegration is complete, you will return to our practice to have an abutment placed, which is a connector that rests above the gum line.
Phase 3: Securing Your Restoration
Your implant-supported restoration will be custom-crafted while you recover from surgery. To complete treatment, your restorative dentist will attach your crown, bridge, or denture securely to your dental implants, instantly restoring the look and function of your smile.
After your implant treatment is complete, you will need to schedule regular maintenance appointments at our practice to help reduce the risk of implant failure over time. Since smoking can unfortunately increase the risk of implant failure, we cannot stand behind the durability of implants for those who smoke.
